CrossRoads Flanders-Netherlands is a project within the European Interreg Flanders-Netherlands program that promotes cross-border cooperation between Flemish SMEs and SMEs in the southern Netherlands. The project subsidizes product and process innovations that contribute to social transition priorities: sustainable use of raw materials and energy, Industry 4.0/digitization, and healthcare.
Accessible support
Unfortunately, the network of small and medium-sized entrepreneurs still too often stops at the national border. With CrossRoads, Interreg Flanders-Netherlands, REWIN, the Brabant Development Agency, VLAIO Team Business Processes, Economische Impuls Zeeland, LIOF, and InnovationQuarter are giving the existing potential in the border region a significant boost by supporting SMEs in their search for the perfect partner across the border and subsidizing their joint innovations.
Addressing societal challenges
CrossRoads Flanders-Netherlands focuses on innovations aimed at social needs. The added value of the innovations for Flemish and Dutch citizens is central. The focus is on the social transition priorities that are at the top of the agenda in both member states:
The planned innovation projects will run for up to two years, with a maximum subsidy of €250,000 from the ERDF, which covers 50% of the total eligible costs. Each collaborative project involves at least one Flemish SME and one SME from the southern Netherlands. The ambition is to select at least 50 innovation projects involving at least 125 companies.
The CrossRoads consortium also assists in finding partners across borders and provides guidance during and after the innovation project. More information about the subsidy and regional contacts can be found here.
New opening
CrossRoads announce fifth and last call
On December 1, 2025, CrossRoads Flanders-Netherlands will open the fifth and final call for innovative collaborative projects between Flemish SMEs and SMEs in the southern Netherlands. The consortium will once again be looking for projects focusing on sustainable entrepreneurship, sustainable energy, Industry 4.0, and health.
Which projects, amount of support and submission
The available subsidy budget for this call is €1.8 million. CrossRoads aims to support at least seven projects with this budget. Each collaborative project must include at least one Flemish SME and one SME from the southern Netherlands. The subsidy percentage is 50%, with a maximum of €250,000 per project. Companies can submit applications between December 1, 2025, and February 6, 2026.

Background
CrossRoads Flanders-Netherlands builds on the success of its predecessors CrossRoads, CrossRoads2, and CrossRoads2 Sustainable Energy. Through these projects, dozens of innovations were realized by pairs of Flemish and Dutch companies, thereby partially breaking down the Flemish-Dutch border in the field of innovation. In CrossRoads2 (2016-2020) alone, in which 202 companies participated in 118 innovation projects, the total investment of €7 million in subsidies led to an estimated economic added value of €16 million per year! CrossRoads2 Sustainable Energy delivered an estimated CO2 reduction of 375,000 tons of CO2 for the period 2023-2027.
