Smart energy storage software receives growth funding from LIOF
LIOF supports PortfolioEnergy, an innovative company that develops software to optimize battery energy storage systems and other renewable energy assets. Through this partnership, both parties aim to contribute to a smarter, more stable, and more sustainable energy system—both in Limburg and internationally.

Due to the growth of solar and wind energy, energy production is becoming increasingly dependent on weather conditions. This creates greater discrepancies between when energy is generated and when it is needed. Battery energy storage systems are playing an increasingly important role in restoring that balance.
PortfolioEnergy develops software that intelligently controls these systems, enabling renewable energy to be stored, utilized, and traded more efficiently. PortfolioEnergy’s platform can be integrated with customers’ existing systems and provides transparent insight into the optimizations.
Contribution to the energy transition
PortfolioEnergy initially focuses on battery energy storage, but the technology is also applicable to other renewable energy assets. In doing so, the company addresses the growing need for flexibility in the energy system. Smart storage and control are essential to make renewable energy projects more profitable and help prevent grid congestion.
This development presents opportunities for Limburg. PortfolioEnergy contributes to strengthening the regional energy ecosystem and collaborates with knowledge institutions and parties in the energy sector, among others. This not only fosters technological innovation but also generates new knowledge and employment in the region.
LIOF as a partner for growth
LIOF supports ambitious entrepreneurs who want to grow and make an impact. “The energy transition calls for entrepreneurs who can translate technological innovation into concrete solutions for the market,” says Martin Schreurs, investment manager at LIOF. “PortfolioEnergy demonstrates how smart software can contribute to a more efficient and stable energy system.”
PortfolioEnergy also views the partnership as an important step in the company’s further development. “With our software, we want to contribute to an energy system in which renewable energy is utilized more intelligently,” says Jorn Baayen, director of PortfolioEnergy. “LIOF’s support helps us further realize our growth plans and increase our impact.”
