Limburg sets course for future-proof business parks

To achieve this goal, the Province of Limburg is deploying the so-called SPUK scheme to make business property more sustainable. In particular, this is being used to set up or increase the degree of organization at Limburg business parks in order to make them more sustainable. Part of this is the realization of so-called energy hubs, where this can be a solution.

The Limburg Development Company (LIOF), the Limburg Employers Association (LWV) and the Development Company Midden Limburg (OML) together form a special consortium set up for this purpose. They are pulling together with, among others, the Limburg municipalities, RES-en, Enexis and the national Programma Verduurzaming Bedrijventerreinen (PVB) Nederland.

Energy hubs as a solution to grid congestion

We all face grid congestion: the overloading of the energy grid. Developing a future-proof business park that acts as an energy hub for its surroundings offers interesting opportunities. Strong energy demand and often supply from various parties converge in a small area. The demand for energy exists in many modalities; in the form of electricity, heat and (renewable) gas. The solution may lie in making smarter use of the available energy together or using smart and sustainable generation or storage systems.

Project Verduurzaming Bedrijventerreinen Limburg (VBL).

The consortium will work under this name. It will work closely with existing park management organizations or business associations in the business parks. This integrated cooperation offers great opportunities. The consortium is funded by the SPUK scheme.

Goal

The goal is to set up or increase the level of organization at at least 59 Limburg business parks for the purpose of making them more sustainable by 2027. Within this, the consortium wants to realize an energy hub at at least ten sites and/or projects around climate adaptation or greening. An ambitious but achievable goal.

Kickoff on September 25

On Sept. 25, the consortium, Enexis and PVB met with the Limburg municipalities at Province Hall. The aim was to inform each other about the approach and possibilities. The intended outcome is a starting list of business parks. Specially appointed ambassadors will talk to the municipalities, park management organizations or business associations at these sites about the status, possibilities and wishes. The action plan will be fine-tuned on this basis.
