Healix Takes the Next Step in High-Quality Plastic Recycling with Verpact

This partnership comes at a crucial time. Starting in November, stricter European regulations will apply to the export of plastic waste to countries outside the OECD. As a result, high-quality recycling within Europe is more important than ever. By processing used big bags in the Netherlands into new raw materials, valuable materials are retained for the European economy, and raw materials are reused rather than lost.

For Healix, this marks a significant expansion of its operations. The Maastricht-based company previously developed an innovative technology for recycling complex plastic waste streams, such as discarded ropes and fishing nets. By processing big bags, Healix demonstrates how existing technology can be adapted for new applications and thus contribute to a broader circular economy.

For Healix, this is an important next step in our ambition to become the leading platform for the high-quality recycling of post-consumer plastic fibers in Europe.” . 

In 2023, LIOF invested in Healix through the Participation Fund, based on the conviction that the company’s technology can make a significant contribution to the circular economy. That confidence remains as strong as ever. The collaboration with Verpact demonstrates how innovative companies, together with strong supply chain partners, can continue to grow and develop new applications that deliver both economic and social value.

Healix’s positive growth is also gaining broader recognition. The company was recently named the winner of the KPMG Dutch Tech Innovator Award 2026, a competition for promising Dutch technology companies. As the winner, Healix will represent the Netherlands later this year at the international finals of the KPMG Global Tech Innovator at the Web Summit in Lisbon. The award underscores both the company’s innovative strength and the international potential of this Limburg-based recycling technology.
