Trade Relations Program (TRP) Report 2023
Over the past year, the 12 TINL partners once again visited many different entrepreneurs for face-to-face discussions. What stood out this time?

No fewer than 1,320 follow-up actions
In 2023, the TINL partners spoke to 834 companies about international business in all regions of the Netherlands. This resulted in no fewer than 1,320 follow-up actions. These included warm referrals, conducting market analyses, utilising voucher schemes, and participating in trade fairs.
Focus on neighbouring countries
In discussions over the past year, it was noticeable that companies are focusing even more than in previous years on countries close to the Netherlands. Smaller SMEs in particular indicated that they are targeting neighbouring countries.
As in previous years, companies export most to Germany, followed by Belgium and France. However, there is also a noticeable shift towards Central and Eastern Europe.
Trends and developments
The main trends we heard about in our discussions with entrepreneurs concerned geopolitical developments, earning capacity, sustainability and digitisation.
Geopolitical developments are prompting companies to make choices that will make their supply chains more robust and spread risks. Companies are also trying to reduce their dependence on specific countries. In addition, the reverse movement of reshoring is being considered.
