Mosa Meat raises €40 million in new funding

Mosa Meat, the pioneer in cultured meat, announced today that it is welcoming new and existing partners to bring cultured beef to consumers, as part of a £40 million in new capital raised to finance the next phase of the company. The money will be used to further scale up production processes and prepare for market launch.

The oversubscribed investment round was led by Lowercarbon Capital and MVentures. Among the investors are new government-funded parties, such as Invest-NL, the Dutch impact investor, partly covered by InvestEU, the European Commission's programme that supports initiatives in line with European policy priorities, LIOF, regional development company for Limburg, and the Limburg Energy Fund (LEF), the regional fund that invests in projects and companies that contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions. New partners with a background in the conventional meat sector also joined, including PHW Group, one of Europe's largest poultry producers. XO Ventures and several other new partners also joined existing investors to create a more diverse and resilient food system.

Maarten Bosch, CEO of Mosa Meat, said: “The macroeconomic situation has deteriorated over the past two years, creating challenges for our entire sector. As Mosa Meat, this has made us even more strategic and focused on achieving our mission. We are therefore delighted and honoured to welcome both public parties and conventional meat producers as new partners and investors. In an increasingly polarised environment, we choose to connect and collaborate, building a future in which cultivated beef is a real choice for consumers and one of the complementary solutions we have at our disposal to combat the climate crisis and loss of biodiversity. Organising our food system in such a way that we can continue to produce good food for a growing world population without causing irreparable damage to the planet is a huge challenge, one that will require a large number of people and organisations to work together.

After opening and successfully commissioning a scale-up facility and becoming a B Corp last year, Mosa Meat is currently preparing its first formal tastings of cultivated beef in the Netherlands.
