Green light for CEL4LIFE
On Tuesday 3 March, the official launch of the Circular Economy Limburg 4 LIFE (CEL4LIFE) project took place at the Provincial Government building on the Meuse. A festive gathering marked the formalisation of agreements for the next six years and the official start of the programme, in which partners and stakeholders will be working together.

CEL4LIFE is an ambitious partnership with the goal of achieving a fully circular economy in Limburg by 2050. Twelve parties are working intensively together to achieve this goal, including the Province of Limburg, LIOF, Parkstad Limburg City Region, Chemelot, Maastricht University, Gilde Opleidingen, Zuyd University of Applied Sciences, CHILL, Ebert HERA, Building Balance Limburg, Afvalsamenwerking Limburg and Wonen Limburg. Various other (EU) regional and national organisations are also involved as stakeholders.
Deputy Stephan Satijn: "With CEL4LIFE, we are strengthening our position as a progressive region. This project offers us the opportunity to work with partners to build a sustainable future and a strong, innovative economy. In this way, we are not only creating environmental benefits, but also new economic opportunities for Limburg."
European stimulus programme
The project is made possible by a European LIFE grant. This incentive programme supports projects that contribute to European policy on the environment, energy and climate, and also focuses on the transition to a circular economy. The European Commission gave the proposal a positive assessment in June 2025. The Limburg project, which will run until January 2032, has received a grant of €11.6 million.
Exemplary region for circularity
CEL4LIFE will make Limburg a model region in the field of circularity. In the coming months, the focus will be on setting up the first concrete projects and further strengthening cooperation between the partners. CEL4LIFE makes an important contribution to European, national and regional objectives in the field of the circular economy and is in line with the Circular Economy Implementation Programme 2024-2027: Towards 2023.
