PVB Limburg: stronger cooperation requires concrete action
The Limburg Industrial Park Sustainability Program (PVB) is achieving significant results. Currently, 27 municipalities in Limburg are collaborating on 41 sustainability projects spread across 67 industrial parks. At 22 business parks, organizational capacity has now been demonstrably strengthened or established. As a result, Limburg is leading the nation in making business parks more sustainable.
Business parks play a key role in the energy and climate transition. PVB Limburg supports municipalities, businesses, and park management in addressing shared challenges related to energy and climate adaptation. During the annual “Samen Vooruit” event at Villa Flora in Venlo, the focus was on the next step: turning the established collaboration into concrete action.
Strong collaboration as a foundation
Since the program’s launch, discussions have been held with all 31 municipalities in Limburg. Of these, 27 expressed a desire to actively participate. Together, 41 projects were selected across 67 business parks in North, Central, and South Limburg. The approach links collaboration between businesses and municipalities with concrete energy and climate projects. Now that the organizational framework has taken shape in an increasing number of areas, the focus is shifting to the implementation of projects.
Solutions for Grid Congestion
Energy projects have now been launched at several business parks. PVB Limburg is working on nine promising energy projects that offer technical, financial, and organizational potential. The greatest opportunities currently lie in collective charging infrastructure, which allows companies to make smarter use of available grid capacity together. Energy hubs appear to be feasible only under specific circumstances: a sound business case, technical feasibility, financing, and legal frameworks are decisive factors.
Sharing Knowledge as a Catalyst
PVB Limburg’s knowledge and expertise center shares experiences, knowledge, and success stories. Municipalities, businesses, and other partners can directly apply these “lessons learned” to new sustainability initiatives. In addition to collaboration and knowledge, adequate funding remains essential to actually implement climate measures.
Possible extension offers prospects for the future
During its annual event, PVB Nederland announced that work is underway to continue the program. This opportunity offers the prospect of maintaining the collaboration that has been built up and moving promising projects closer to implementation. Both entrepreneurs and municipalities can take the initiative in this regard. The foundation has been laid; now decisive action is needed to build on it.
