Innovation mission Egypt

Are you an entrepreneur or researcher working on innovative climate and water-smart solutions for the agricultural sector? Are you looking for opportunities for collaboration with Egyptian agribusinesses or knowledge institutions? Then take part in this innovation mission to Egypt.

This mission focuses on climate- and water-smart agriculture. With a focus on open cultivation. And particularly targeting the large(er) farms focused on exporting various agricultural and horticultural products.

Drought and soil salinization are major challenges in Egypt. Smarter water management, data-driven solutions and precision agriculture are therefore important solution directions on which the larger agricultural companies are investing. The Dutch embassy has built an extensive network among the major agribusiness players and several companies are already involved in embassy projects.

For whom.

The mission is intended for entrepreneurs or researchers in the fields of: water management and irrigation technologies, precision agriculture and data-driven solutions, robotization and automation in agriculture, climate-resilient agricultural practices and cold chain development.

Why participate.

This mission offers you the opportunity to:

  • Gain insight into the challenges and (market) opportunities of the Egyptian agricultural sector.
  • Exchange best practices with Egyptian companies and knowledge institutions with a focus on climate and water-smart agriculture.
  • Explore cooperation opportunities in research and (technology/knowledge) development.
  • Link innovative Dutch knowledge and technology to Egyptian needs.

Program (concept).

The program for this mission is under development. At least the following components will appear in the program:

  • Welcome meeting: participants will be received at the Dutch Embassy in Cairo. This is followed by a briefing on (Dutch and international) financial and R&D instruments, with the presence of the World Bank or FAO also expected.
  • Visits to leading companies: you will tour leading Egyptian companies in the agribusiness sector with a focus on water management, precision agriculture and innovative technologies. A good example of such a company is Dakahlia.
  • Visits to knowledge institutions: you will have the opportunity to explore academic collaboration during visits to institutions, such as the Soil Water & Environment Research Institute (SWERI) and Nile University.
  • Workshop and (light) matchmaking: you will take part in an interactive session with Egyptian partners to promote collaboration, including start-ups and large agribusinesses.
  • Networking opportunities: at various times you can make contacts and further discuss collaboration opportunities.

An online/hybrid workshop will take place in late March, where participants will have the opportunity to present their activities and interests to a carefully selected group of Egyptian companies and institutions.

Cost

The participation fee is €250 per person excluding VAT. The cost includes program, transfers to and from the program components and lunch and dinner according to the program. Travel and accommodation expenses are at your own expense.
