Subsidy for top sectors
The focus is on the four social themes of the mission-driven knowledge and innovation policy (the so-called Knowledge and Innovation Agendas: KIAs), the further development of key technologies and social earning capacity. These are the KIAs within which the project must fit:
- KIA climate and energy
- KIA circular economy
- KIA agriculture, water and food
- KIA health and care
- KIA safety
- KIA key technology.
The government uses two instruments within MIT South to stimulate the innovative power of SMEs: the feasibility project and R&D collaboration.
A feasibility project allows you to identify the technical and economic risks of a proposed development. This may be supplemented by a small amount of industrial research or development. This gives you a good idea of the resources you will need to implement the project.
SMEs that wish to submit a project are encouraged to take into account the recent changes to the policy framework.
For more information about the background of the new policy, the Knowledge and Innovation Agendas (KIAs), and practical examples, please visit www.topsectoren.nl and the Stimulus website.
For this instrument, applications will be processed in the order in which they are received (first come, first served). The date on which the grant application is complete will be used as the reference date. All complete applications received on the submission date will be treated equally. The order in which these applications are assessed will be determined by means of a lottery. Notification will be given no later than 12 weeks after submission and, if approved, 100% of the amount awarded will be paid out (max. € 20,000).

Within an R&D collaboration project, at least two SMEs innovate or develop a product, production process or service. The ultimate goal is further growth for your company. In addition, collaborating with another Limburg-based SME provides you with knowledge.
The tender mechanism is applied to this instrument. All applications that are submitted correctly and in full within the tender period and that meet the technical requirements of the scheme are assessed qualitatively by an external, independent advisory committee. Notification is given after 12 weeks and payment is made in instalments. The first (maximum) 75% is paid after notification, with the remainder following completion of the project.
