Feasibility Fund for SMEs

The Feasibility Fund of the Limburg Business Development Fund (LBDF) provides grants to test early ideas and determine whether they are technologically and/or economically feasible – the proof of principle. The grant amount is 35% of the total eligible costs, subject to a minimum of €15,000 and maximum of €50,000.

When do we finance an idea?

We provide funding to explore the feasibility of an idea to entrepreneurs who meet the EU definition for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Another requirement is that your company is actually located in Limburg (physically and actively present), and operates in one of the spearhead sectors in Limburg:

  • Agri-food
  • Logistics
  • High-tech Systems
  • Chemicals / Materials
  • Smart services
  • Life Sciences
  • Crossovers between these sectors

Reimbursement of costs

What exactly does that include?

The following demonstrable costs of the feasibility study are eligible under the grant:
•    Wage and labour costs (hourly fee of €60);
•    Material costs, e.g. for a non-functional prototype
•    Depreciation of property, plant, and equipment
•    Costs for using the facilities;
•    Costs for contracting third parties
The 'Grant Rules for Proof of Principle Fund (Feasibility Fund)' are given here.

Detailed information

Your depreciation costs on plant and equipment are covered provided that they are necessary for the execution of the project and have been laid down in the approved project plan. Depreciation is based on the economic lifespan. If the resources are also used for any purposes other than the project, a proportion of the depreciation will be covered in consideration of usage for the project.

The following costs are not reimbursed:

  • Training/education;
  • Fundamental research;
  • Certification;
  • Patent applications
  • Forming a legal entity under private law;
  • Expenses incurred prior to submitting the application.
